Respondus LockDown Browser | Computing for Arts + Sciences

Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is ideal for computer labs and computer-based testing facilities where students take computer-based tests and instructors want to restrict access to outside resources.

Respodus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within our learning management system (LMS) -- currently Canvas. When students use LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading.

Our copy of the LockDown Browser installer is customized for UNT and specifically the canvas.unt.edu site. It is currently in use by the Physics department and Math Testing Center and the CAS Mobile Testing service.

If another CAS department wishes to use LockDown Browser in their student computing facilities, they should contact the CAS College Lab Services team (colas@unt.edu, 565-2201).

For a version of the Lockdown Browser that can be used for creating exams and uploading them into Canvas, faculty should contact the CAS Service Desk (CAS-ITServices@unt.edu, 565-4498). On personal equipment, faculty can download it from https://clear.unt.edu/supported-technologies/respondus/downloads; it requires logging in with EUID and password to gain access.
