Antivirus (CrowdStrike Setup & McAfee Removal) | Computing for Arts + Sciences

Antivirus (CrowdStrike Setup & McAfee Removal)

McAfee Antivirus is no longer installed by default on every Dell and Apple computer supported by CAS IT Services. The university is moving from McAfee to a newer, better antivirus product: CrowdStrike: Falcon.

New computers and freshly re-imaged computers now receive CrowdStrike: Falcon antivirus software instead of McAfee. If your UNT-owned computer is still running McAfee antivirus, please contact CAS IT Services.

If your antivirus software isn't working properly, contact CAS IT Services for assistance.

To install on:

  • CAS/AT-supported Dell PCs: CrowdStrike: Falcon is installed by default on all AT Dell machines.
  • CAS/AT-supported Apple Macs: CrowdStrike: Falcon is installed by default on all AT Macs.
  • Faculty, Staff, and student personal laptop or home computer: CrowdStrike: Falcon is not supplied for machines not owned by UNT. If you need antivirus for a personal Windows machine, you can follow the steps here: https://itss.untsystem.edu/divisions/mrs/is/antivirus.php

Running a manual scan:

  • There is no application to run. Simply right-click on the file or folder you want to scan, and select "Crowdstrike Falcon Sensor Scan -> Scan Now"
  • The best way to monitor the progress is with the Task Manager, view All Details, Processes, then sort by Disk
  • After the scan is complete, right-click any file or folder and select "See results of last scan"
