Mandate and Examples
From 2017 - 2018, UNT's Emergency Operations Center and Police Department have been working to improve and expand the university's ability to deliver emergency notifications to the campus community. President Smatresk has approved using the Alertus Desktop Override feature to supplement existing methods currently in place at UNT.
Alertus is used for emergency notifications by UNT's Emergency Operations Center and Police Department to trigger campus wide Eagle Alerts, as well as by the Libraries and Classroom Support for full screen desktop override. To enhance the immediate notification capacity of our Police Department and the Emergency Operations Center, Alertus Desktop Override software has been selected as an additional emergency notification channel in conjunction with Eagle Alert.
To achieve the goal of an added channel for emergency notifications, an Alertus client must be installed on every end-user, non-life safety computing device capable of running the Alertus software. In the event of an emergency, full-screen alerts will be pushed to all computers that are part of the Alertus notification infrastructure at the UNT Denton campus.

Digital signage devices/displays will be part of this emergency notification infrastructure so that the reach of emergency notifications can extend to public places on-campus.
This initiative will require the participation of every College, Division, Area, Department and Information Technology Support group at UNT.
By August 1, 2018 every non-life safety computing device capable of running the Alertus client must have it installed and be part of the Alertus emergency notification infrastructure. Between June 20 and July 31, 2018, CAS IT Services will be installing Alertus on all faculty, staff, and student computers we support.
