Math Printer GAB424mfp-BW

Summary

There are 3 Konica Minolta bizhub 808 (B&W) printers in GAB 424, with hidden queues on cas-print:

GAB424mfp
GAB424mfp2
GAB424mfp3

Users are not able to add these queues to their logins. They must instead add the central virtual print queue, GAB424mfp-BW, and print using it. For now, this does not require the PaperCut client to be installed or used, and will probably continue to not be required on Windows computers.

The GAB424mfp-BW virtual queue is set up to allow jobs it receives to be released from any of the 3 physical printers in GAB 424. A user only needs to log in (using their EUID and password) to the PaperCut app on the smart panel of the printer they want to release their job(s) from. The PaperCut app will show them how much credit they have left. If they have enough credit for the number of pages they want to print, they just tap the panel to select the checkbox next to each job they want to release, then tap the Print button to release the job(s).

NOTE: It is helpful to subsequent users (and for the possible privacy of your own unprinted documents) to remember to tap the log-out symbol at the top right of the smart panel when you are done releasing jobs.

Web Print

Alternatively, users can use PaperCut's Web Print option to send jobs to the printer. This is especially useful for Linux and Mac users who do not wish to install or use the PaperCut client on their computers. Users just need to log into printing.unt.edu, select the Web Print option from the column of option categories on the left, then follow the instructions shown.

NB: The downside to using Web Print is that if a user wants to print out only certain pages from a document, or only a highlighted selection of text and/or graphics, they cannot do that directly within the Web Print interface. They must print the pages or selection they want into a separate PDF, then Web Print that smaller PDF.

Credit and Quotas

The Math Department assigns print credits in PaperCut to its authorized users based on specific quota groups. The current groups and their quotas are as follows:

Faculty - Unlimited (their balance will show up as $0.00 credit in most cases, but that will not prevent printing or copying)
Adjuncts - $42 (allows 4200 prints, at 1 cent per page)
TAs & TFs - $12 (allows 1200 prints)
GSAs - $7 (allows 700 prints)

These quotas are renewed 3 times a year: January 10th, May 10th, and August 10th. The renewal is not cumulative; it just restores the person's credit to a maximum value. If the person's credit is already at or above that maximum (quota) value, nothing is changed.

Card Swipe Readers

We are working with the Konica Minolta vendor for Math, ImageNet Solutions, to get a USB card reader set up for each physical printer in 424. Once that is done, users will be able to swipe their UNT ID cards to release jobs at the printers, instead of having to type in their credentials each time.
