The Heilige Geist Kirche is important because it locates the site of the zum weißen Schwan apothecary, which Klaproth joined in 1771. The owner at that time was Valentine Rose the Elder (1736-1771), who died the same year. Klaproth agreed to take on the education of Rose's sons. One died while young; the other Valentine Rose the Younger (1762-1807) grew to become assessor in the Obercollegium Medicum in Berlin. He in turn had two sons, Heinrich Rose (1795-1864) who "rediscovered "niobium" and Gustav Rose (1798-1873) the mineralogist who traveled with Humboldt to Siberia. |
