Previous | Home | NextThis street, Savoy Place, did not exist before the mid-1800s and roughly defines the shoreline of the Thames before the Victoria Embankment. At the extreme left can be seen the cross street (actually an alley) cutting to the right; this is Ivybridge Lane, which marks the site of Cecil Street (which no longer exists) when Wollaston lived here 1797-1801, when he discovered palladium and rhodium. It was only a short walk from here to the Crown and Anchor (see below). The view is west.
