Mendeleev's summer home, where he took up residence in 1865, was in Boblovo, 80 km north of Moscow, and 550 km southwest of St. Petersburg. To travel from St. Petersburg to Boblovo, Mendeleev took the train to Klin (far left corner), then rode by horse-driven troika to Boblovo (marked with a red disk). Map adopted from Hamilton Global Management, "Atlas of Russia -- All Oblasts, Krays, and Republics"; portion of Moscow Oblast. Red scale and waypoint added.
