The Goslar-Oker area is famous for its source of zinc, and the cadmium that Stromeyer discovered in certain medicinal zinc preparations can be traced as an impurity in the zinc mined in this area. In addition, the thallium which was spectroscopically discovered by Crookes in England {LINK: London2G-216} was smelted in Oker (but mined in Tilkerode {LINK: to Tilkderode}).
