The plaque reads: "To the memory of the scientist and burgermeister of our city Dr. Georges Agricola born 24-3-1494 in Glauchau, died 21-11-1555 in Chemnitz, who served mankind as the founder of mineralogy and mining geology, and as a doctor and apothecary, philologer, diplomat, and historian. He lived here 1531-1555."
