Georgius Agricola

1494-1555

He was a German metallurgist who wrote De Re Metallica, a famous Latin reference on mining and metallurgy, which was translated into English by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hoover. In this work Agricola included a description of metals known at that time, including early references to bismuth, antimony, zinc, arsenic, fluorspar, and even cobalt ores.
