Geber. Abu Musa Jabir ibn Hayyan
eighth century?
He was an Arabian alchemist and scholar. Geber wrote “Invention of Verity, or Perfection,” and other very influential works which described the art of chemistry at the time. Geber represents the indispensable contribution of Arabian alchemy to Europe, where it developed during the Renaissance. Since a great deal of alchemy was unintelligible to the layman, his name became synonymous with nonsensical writing — hence the term “gibberish.” | ||
