Tobern Olaf Bergman
1735-1784
He was chairman of the University of Uppsala who mentored Scheele. The association between Bergman and Scheele was mutual good fortune - Scheele was introduced to the international scientific world and Bergman enjoyed his "greatest discovery" (Scheele) who brought true genius to the university. Bergman urged Scheele to work on pyrolusite which led to the generation and discovery of chlorine. Bergman was actively involved in general progressive chemistry in Sweden at the time, including research on nickel, cobalt, and bismuth - all new metals in the world of chemistry. | ||
