Hamburg, Germany/hamburg050Previous | Home | NextThis plaque on the side of St. Michaeliskirche tells us: "In 1648-1673 the first Great St. Michaelis Church was raised as a triple nave brick hall by Christoph Corbinus and Peter Marquard. The Little Michaelis Church (see below) had been standing since 1606. In 1750 the church was destroyed by a lightning stroke. In 1751-1762 new construction was accomplished by Johann Leonahard Prey and Ernst Georg Sonnin. The Tower was finished by Sonnin in 1777-1786. In 1906 the outer walls were destroyed by fire; reconstruction was done 1907-1912 according to the old design. After damage in the last War, repair has been done." Hence, this church was being constructed when Brand did his work. |
