Previous | Home | NextParis has been politically divided into 20 arrondissements. In our grand tour chemical historical tour of Paris, we can use this map to orient ourselves. In this journey, we will take a general counterwise path, starting at the eastern end of the Right Bank, ending up at the eastern end of the Left Bank. The "Right Bank" and "Left Bank" refer to the respective side of La Seine as one faces downstream (to the west). This counterclockwise sweep will take us in ascending order through maps 2a through 2g (but in roughly descending order through the arrondissements). Historical chemical sites in Paris date from the time when Paris was smaller, hence almost all sites of interest are found in the inner ring arrondissements 1-11. To give one a general feeling of the layout, familiar tourist landmarks include:
