London, England/london2G-535Previous | Home | NextThere has been considerable contention between Great Britain and France regarding the "true discoverer of thallium." Such nationalist fervor can be common, and the authors of "Rediscovery" have frequently encountered vigorous arguments regarding elemental claims during their travels in Europe. This label (both this photo and the next), it appears to the authors, is a very fair and is a credit to the impartiality of the preparers of this exhibit. Thus, Crookes gets credit for the original discovery, Lamy gets credit for first preparing the element in pure, metallic form. |
