"Established as an administrative office of the royal court of the Freudenstein Castle, then as the dwelling of the Electress Magdalena Sibylla. In 1702-1712 it was used as a house for widows and orphans. In 1744 it was converted to a smelter for silver, and in 1830 was taken over by the Mining Academy in an expansion of its laboratory facilities. During 1855-1921 there have been many remodelings and expansions. In 1954 it was used as a depot for minerals. The reconstruction began in 1982."
