The Brandenburg Gate marked the division between the Soviet and American sectors, being just to the east of the Berlin Wall (1961-1989) which marked the division between West (American, British, French) and East (Soviet) Berlin. Ronald Reagan gave a speech on June 12, 1987, at the Brandenburg Gate, shortly before the wall fell.
