Dorotheenstraße was called Letzte Straße at this time; it was changed to today's name in 1822. The Akademiehaus was across the street (north) from the Observatory, built in 1711, and northwest of the Palace (today's Humboldt University). The Akademiehaus was labeled on some maps as "Marggrafisches Laboratorium"; in1803 it was established as the first true Chemical Institute in Berlin. In this map the Opera House, opened in 1742 and still existing today, is seen across Unter den Linden from the Palace.
