The Academie is a large building complex. This is the view along the Rue Anciens Facultés. When Guyton left for Paris in 1791, Courtois left the Dijon Academie and concentrated on his saltpeter business, which was conducting at the refineries east of town (see below). This business was particularly important at the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s when Great Britain established a blockade prohibiting imports of saltpeter for gunpowder production.
