Moseley found there was a clear relationship between the atomic number of an element and the X-ray frequency emitted when that element is irradiated with high energy electrons. Although the idea of an atomic number had been conceived before, Moseley was the first to give it a physical reality. All of this important work connected to his X-ray studies and his law of atomic numbers was done in the incredibly short period of time December 1912-June 1914, spread between Manchester and Oxford. |
