The entrance to the Royal Society. Founded in 1660, this may very well be the oldest learned society in the world. It has claimed homes at Gresham College (1660), Arundel House (1666), Crane Court (1710), Somerset House (1780), and Burlington House (1857). For generations the Royal Society has furnished high quality scientific publications. The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society was established in 1665 and is the oldest scientific journal in the world. The Proceedings of the Royal Society date from 1800.
