Under the photograph: "Auer Welsbach Memorial in Vienna. Dedication November 7, 1933. The world famous scholar and discoverer of new elements and ingenious inventor of gas lamps, the osmium lamp, and cerium-iron. Auer von Welsbach was the founder and proprietor of our firm Treibacher Chemische Werke A.G., Vienna and Treibach." Below: "This memorial was erected in the 9th Bezirk [borough] of Vienna on the Platz joining Boltzmanngasse in theWähringerstraße to the honor of the most important Austrian chemist Dr. Carl Auer von Welsbach." Then added in smaller font: "The original bronze figure was destroyed in the War and was replaced by a marble statue."
