Georg Ernst Stahl
1660-1734
He was a German chemist, physician, and professor who elaborated and refined the theory of phlogiston. Often regarded as an “alchemist” because he believed in the old principles, nevertheless Stahl should be regarded as the first true chemist, because he proposed a self-consistent theory that could be tested. His theory was the beginning of the scientific method in chemistry. | ||
