Johannes (Hans) Wilhelm Geiger

Working with Ernest
Rutherford at the University of Manchester, Hans Geiger invented the
counter that bears his name in 1908. He and Ernest
Marsden, both working for Rutherford, in 1909 conducted the famous
Geiger-Marsden experiment (gold foil experiment) that proved the existence
of the atomic nucleus. |
