This mine, next to the "parking area" was a prolific source of euxenite and other radioactive minerals, which local vendors sold in quantity to curious tourists. In 1910 a mineral was discovered near here (Landsverk, 600 meters south) here by Olav Thortveit, who sent it to Oslo for analysis. It was announced as the first scandium mineral in the world, with the formula (Sc,Y)2Si2O7. (Although scandium was originally discovered in euxenite and gadolinite, it was only an minor impurity.)
