This is in the Grotthuss lecture hall (Grotthuss Auditorija) in the Vilnius Chemistry Department. Theodore von Grotthuss (1785-1822), from a German family in Lithuania, was best known for his work with voltaic cells; in his electrolysis work of 1805-1806, he had a remarkable modern interpretation of the action of current flow and the decomposition of water. Dr. Aivaras is showing Grotthuss' portrait, and he is is explaining how the department is planning to establish a Sniadecki lecture hall as well.
