Almost 500 meters to the west, at 299 Oxford Street, is a men's suit store (earlier a shoe shop), which was the site 1846-1872 of the Royal College of Chemistry, the progenitor of the Chemistry Department of Imperial College which is now in South Kensington {LINK: London2G-662}. The original building (see next photo) was demolished in the late 19th century.
The view is south.
