Closeup of the 18-19th centuries. It appears that Gregor was rector here for the period 1786-1827. From this it would appear that he lived here for the last 41 years of his life and thus was here during the his discovery of titanium in 1791. However, recent scholarly work has shown that he paid a succession of curates (assistant clerics) to take his place, and in fact he never conducted services at the St. Mary's church. Instead, he lived further south, near his birthplace in Trewarthenick, during this period of time.
