Installation of the Riverstick VPN is automated through Software Center for authorized computers.

If you're running Windows 7 or 10, you'll need to look for the Riverstick VPN Program Name

If it's blank, simply select it and click Install. If it's listed as failed, contact the CAS ITS Helpdesk.

Connect

After the Riverstick VPN is installed on your computer, you will have a new icon in your Start Menu, as shown below for Windows 10

Turn this into a Desktop Shortcut.

Additionally, you'll notice a Local Area Connection is labeled as unplugged, in your Notification Area, as shown:

This icon can be hidden.

In order to connect, simply do the following:

  1. Right Click the OpenVPN MI GUI icon in the Notification Area.
The Riverstick VPN shortcut that is in your Start Menu is only used to make the OpenVPN MI GUI icon in the Notification Area, in the event that you accidentally exit. The OpenVPN MI GUI icon will appear in the Notification Area automatically everytime you logon.
  2. Left Click Connect, as shown:
  3. Enter your Riverstick credentials when prompted, as shown:
  4. Notice that the status window will scroll while the connection is being established. The status window will minimize when it's completed and you'll be notified that Riverstick is now connected, as shown:

If you see any variation to this, please check the Known Issues below. If your issue isn't listed, please contact the CAS ITS Helpdesk.

  5. Internet Explorer Security Warning - Mixed Content
Fix already implemented for Win7. WinXP users must do as shown -- for now.
    1. when attempting to view a Live or Recorded session, you might receive a Security Warning, as shown:

This occurs because the Riverstick page is loaded securely (https), but after the video passes through the VPN, it is decrypted and arrives at the QuickTime plugin insecurely. This violates best practices, but isn't a risk.
